Dystonia is one of the most common movement disorders, and MDS has dedicated study groups, rating scales, and educational materials to support clinicians and researchers working in this area.

The MDS Dystonia Study Group leads collaborative research efforts on dystonia classification, genetic characterization, and treatment approaches.1 MDS has developed validated rating scales for assessing dystonia severity, including scales specific to cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, and generalized dystonia.2 Educational offerings include online learning modules covering dystonia phenotyping, differential diagnosis, botulinum toxin treatment, and surgical management including deep brain stimulation.34

The MDS International Congress regularly features dystonia-focused symposia, workshops, and poster sessions, and the society’s journals — Movement Disorders and Movement Disorders Clinical Practice — publish original research, reviews, and clinical guidelines on all forms of dystonia.56
